Welcome to the real Malawi

Amazing 4 days in Luweleji, a small village northern Malawi.

Since it's been 3 weeks break in my school, I traveled some places in Malawi.
Blantiyer, Mchinji, and Luweleji to see my friends and their activities.

I had so much fun in all the places but this time, I want to write an amazing experience in Luweleji.

My JOCV friends in Luweleji do health caring activities. I was lucky that I had chance to join their activities.
It was my first time to join a health caring activity.
Through hearing my host mother and father's health caring volunteering experience in a developing country, my interest toward that kind of volunteering increased.

Oh, before I write my volunteering experience, let me write how the village is.

I've been in Malawi for 6 months but this was the first time to see the "real" of Malawi.
2 hours away from a paved road. No electricity, no tap water, no cars, no TV, no,,,,,.
There are only corn fields, dirt narrow roads and people.
I was amazed that people are living in such a remote region. And they looked happy.

In that village, we (a JOCV friend, me and some local volunteers) brought ad gave vaccinations for under 5 infants.
I don't have medical knowledge or qualification so I didn't give them shots but I helped weigh infants and ordered them whether they need vitamins or not.

I felt a bit sad during this activity that mothers who came to give vaccinations to their infants, their behavior was like we(volunteers) want to give them vaccinations and they are letting us to do so. I don't know if this is a part of their culture or because of they are so used to being assisted. But mostly I enjoyed=)

What I found (reminded me) in Luweleji is that Malawi is one of the poorest countries and MOST people are living less than $1.5 a day. I've felt that Malawi is poor but it's not as bad as I thought, but the "Malawi" I've seen was not the "real Malawi". I've been thinking that for this country it is too early to do technical supports that we are doing now. But this experience reminded me that at least, they need medical supports.
And I respect my friends and host parents who they help and save lives.

who is who?

Happy new year every one.
I'm writing down my blog that maybe nobody is reading.

Haha anyway I'm going to write about names today.
In this country weird things happen about names.
Okay, think about your name, if you were asked your name in English, you would say first naem first then last name. For instance myself I would answer Takuji Mishima.
I understand some people would say my name is Mishima Takuji, which I mean your last name comes first and then first name. That's common way to say your name in some countries.
Well people in this country have more than 1 name. I'm not talking about middle name.

Here is what happen in my school.
Let's say one student's name is John Smith and his father's name is Peter Smith.
He have registered his name as John Smith on students list. Of course I expect his name is John Smith, but he told me that his name is John Peter one day. I asked him how can you change your name so easily?
He said my name is John Peter. He explained me that he have changed his name from last week and the name Peter is coming from his father.

Last week!?

For me, even if it is my dog's name, I can't change it so easily.
We aren't talking about nickname , we are talking about real name that he uses officially.
So it's hard to management them using their names.
I suggested my coworkers and my boss to management our students with giving them their students numbers and management them with it. But it seems they are not really willing to do it.
I hope I can find good way to solve this problem.

PS
some of my students are trying to write their names in Japanese but most of them are finding hard differentiate  the word "マ" and "ア"   "ン"and "ソ"which those appear a lot in their names.
Like アンパンマン will be マソパソマソ

Rights or Religions?

It has started from yesterday.
Very close to my house, at my school, about 100 people have started to make a noise.
What they are doing is using a huge speaker, reading(screaming) the Bile.
"Hallelujah" "Hallelujah",,,,, the fuckers over there are doing it from 2pm up to 9pm, OMG!
Soooooooo annoying.
I told the school head to stop it, but he is the one who accept it.

So I called the police to come and stop the fuckers.
First it took me more than 30 min to be connected to the EMERGENCY line!!
And on the phone, as I started to speak in English, the police was like "what ever" before they listened to what is the problem here.
The police correspond was not serious. And they didn't come.
This wasn't a really emergency call so it wasn't biiiggg problem for that police correspond, but I'm scared if this was an emergency call, oh I can't even rely on the police.

So the fuckers at the school went crazy up to 9pm. And today soon it is gonna start again and I have to call the police again and again.

Even I'm not in any religion, I though the religions are nice things that make people disciplined and make the community peaceful.
But not in here.
People are just so crazy strict about religions and those people don't care other's rights.
It's scary that when people went into religions too far, they forget that what they are doing is the right in terms of their religion.

Rights or Religions?

I bereave rights comes first.
